Wednesday 13th – Engelberg, Switzerland
We awoke to the sound of rain on the roof of ‘the beast’ and that pretty much set the tone for the day as it was virtually incessant. We had a leasurely start as I was still pretty shattered from the drive the day before. It was Williams birthday and we did presents first thing followed by some more sorting out of the Winne. So by the time we set off it was almost midday.

We put the bikes together and set off to the cable car where we headed up the mountain to the middle station. Once there we went for a walk around a lake, which was stunning. About a third of the way around it the rain stopped and for a brief moment the sun shone! Alas it wasn’t to last and after a quick hot chocolate at the mountain restaurant we descended in the cable car in solid cloud with visibility only 30 metres or so.

We biked back to the campsite in torrential rain and the boys had a swim before we went to the restaurant for supper to celebrate W’s birthday.
